Blessings by the Bushel
by Shannon Pederson
“Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.” Psalm 67:6
We have been blessed with another good harvest - maybe not the record yields and higher than average prices of the last two years, but still good. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s time to remember our nations “early farmers,” families that came to America to practice religious freedom.
“Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God.” Ray Stannard Baker, American Journalist

For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free"
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
Blessings to everyone as we enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday!
“The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.”
Psalm 85:12
