Confidence
by Shannon Pederson
I really enjoy the word confidence. It can be misinterpreted if a person displays a prideful, egotistical attitude. The way I enjoy seeing confidence being shown is by a person who has a humble, strong, solid belief in their abilities, dreams, and goals. That person possesses an assurance that makes him or her attractive.
Why then is confidence so important and how should we display it?
Confidence can be the one key trait that will help an individual or group move forward. It will help you internally as you work hard toward your dreams. It will also help a group of people, like our congregation. Confidence looks ahead. Hard work, faith in what we do, a belief that we can achieve, and confidence in pushing forward will help each one of us as we strive to make our church stronger. It is the opposite of fear and dread. It gives us the strength we need each morning as we awake and continue on in our personal and spiritual world.
Since we need to be confident, then how should we display that? We need to have a positive attitude. We can’t be rude, obnoxious, or prideful in our ways of being confident. We need to be humble, and we need to tell each other when we do things well. This type of attitude will rub off and it will spread a positive aura to those around us. These qualities seem to garner even more respect for each other so the confidence just keeps growing. What a wonderful cycle to be part of!
“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” Helen Keller
